The game has been expanded by Anno 1602 - New Islands, New Adventures and Anno 1602 - By Royal Command, both released in 1998.

The game design is noteworthy for its attempt to implement a 'progressive' AI, meaning that the pace of the game changes in response to how quickly the player acts. Anno 1602 is an economical, rather than combat orientated strategy game. Some of these games have fixes that can be found on fan sites for those games though. There are also some games from 2000-2002 which use old style 3D renders eg- 3Dfxglide, which. Parts of the game, such as expansion and transportation of resources are similar to the early Settlers games. If the games in question are the very early titles - pre 2000, they may not run on Win7 (more so 64bit) without fixes at all. It is set in the same period as Sid Meier's Colonization, but involves more detailed colony management, excluding any "Old World" political issues. It includes aspects of exploration, combat, diplomacy and trade. I rarely ever play the scenarios and tend to stick to empire-building (which is only a fraction of these games).

OLD GAMES ANNO 1602 SERIES
The game is set in the Early Modern period of history and revolves around colony building and resource management on a series of small islands. If you really like 1602 then I would give 1503 a try - its very similar with some fixes and a little more complexity. Set in the Colonial Age, the player is responsible for the well-being of a group of colonists who embark on a journey to settle in the New World.
